More Than Football

Every football player has statistics. Not every player has a story.

For Anthony Baynes, football has been a dream for as long as he can remember. It's taught him discipline, resilience, teamwork, and the value of doing hard things alongside others. But the lessons that have shaped him most haven't always happened on a football field.

Raised by a single mother, Anthony understands firsthand the impact that strong mentors and positive role models can have in a young person's life. That experience has fueled a heart for serving others, especially young men growing up without fathers. Today, he volunteers his time and shares his perspective with nonprofit organizations dedicated to supporting fatherless boys, encouraging them to build confidence, character, and hope for the future.

His commitment to service extends well beyond his local community. Anthony has participated in mission work in Peru, Ecuador, Guatemala, and Costa Rica, serving children, families, and communities alongside teams committed to meeting both practical and spiritual needs. Whether helping at an orphanage in Peru, working on community projects, or serving through his church, he believes leadership begins with putting others first.

His Christian faith is the foundation that guides every part of his life. It shapes how he competes, how he treats teammates and opponents, and how he approaches adversity. Anthony believes football is a platform to glorify God, grow as a leader, and make a positive impact wherever he goes.

On the field, Anthony spent his first two years of high school at Woodberry Forest School, where he earned the opportunity to play every snap on both offense and defense. That experience accelerated his football IQ, toughness, and understanding of the game while competing in one of Virginia's strongest football environments.

Before his junior season, Anthony transferred to Bishop O'Connell High School to pursue more year-round football development, compete against top competition, increase recruiting exposure, and help contribute to a program working to build something. The decision reflected his willingness to step outside his comfort zone in pursuit of growth, while staying grounded in his faith and values.

As a 6'3", 195-pound (and still growing) Tight End and Defensive End in the Class of 2028, Anthony continues to develop into a complete football player. Recent performances at Towson University and Georgetown University prospect camps earned recognition from Six Star Football, highlighting his fluid movement skills, disciplined route running, natural athleticism, and potential as a developing receiving tight end. He also was highlighted by scouts as a “Virginia prospect making noise”.

Away from football, Anthony enjoys learning about business and entrepreneurship, inspired by generations of entrepreneurs in his family. He hopes to continue playing football at the collegiate level while earning a business degree and preparing for a career where he can continue leading, serving, and creating opportunities for others.

For Anthony, success is measured by far more than touchdowns or tackles. It's measured by the teammates he encourages, the communities he serves, the faith he lives out, and the legacy he leaves behind. He’s looking for a program that will encourage all of that and more when he heads to the next level in 2028.
